Moon and Sun noticed him sitting with Gods, and they informed Lord Vishnu. He chopped Rahu's head off the neck with his Sudarshan Chakra. However Rahu had drunk the nectar and had become immortal.
Lord Vishnu threw the two body pieces, now alive as two separate demons, in opposite directions. The head was Rahu and the remaining body was named as Ketu.
