Sri Maha Prathyangira Devi Temple in Sholinganallur, Chennai India is dedicated to Shri Maha Prathyangira Devi. The beautiful temple with traditionally styled sculpting is located adjacent to Beach of Bay of Bengal and has Idols of other deities. The temple is renowned for its powerful pujas and Yagyas/ Homas that helps provide relief from influences of black magic, evil forces and foes. Every midnight of Amavasya and Poornima, Yagyas or homas are conducted in temples; where priests offer dry chilies that surprisingly do not give out pungent odor. It is believed that Goddess gets easily appeased and grants all wishes when proper sacrifice is offered. Hence for eons her worship was kept secret by sages to avoid her worship being misused by people with evil intensions. This was the reason Indrajit’s Yagya to Goddess was stopped by Lord Hanuman for avoiding Indrajit from becoming invincible in Lanka war. 

Goddess Pratyangira Devi calmed Narsimha (incarnation of Lord Vishnu) after he slayed the demon king Hiranyakashipu. Goddess Pratyangira Devi originated from Shiva's third eye and is a combination of lion and human forms, which symbolizes balance between good and evil. Pratyangira Devi is the powerful, ferocious and profound aspect of the divine mother. The Pratyangira Devi is fiercely protective and thus is worshipped to cure various illnesses, sufferings and negative influences.
