A Sadhak must perform one lakh Japa (chant) of Her mantra on the 14th day of the lunar phase during Krishna Prakash (Nights), in solitude. Choose an auspicious day after checking the Hindu Calendar preferably a Friday. 

Have a bath & wear clean clothes. 

Sit in a comfortable sitting posture while facing East.

Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts. 

Place the Dhoomavati Yantra in front of you on a Puja Thali. 

Light a Diya Lamp and Offer Namaskar.

Sprinkle water on yourself and the Dhoomavati Yantra. 

Apply Sandal Paste to the Bindu of the Dhoomavati Yantra.

Offer Kum to the Dhoomavati Yantra. 

Offer Fruits or Sweets to the Dhoomavati Yantra. 

Light a Dhoop Incense and Offer that to the Dhoomavati Yantra.

Chant the Beej Mantra “Dhung Dhung Dhoomavati Tha Tha” 9/21/51 or 108 times.

Meditating on the Dhoomavati Yantra is the most powerful way to achieve union with the diagram. Achieving the union is said to reveal all secrets of the world and one is supposed to gain access to knowledge of higher realms. In an oversimplified sense one must recreate the Dhoomavati Yantra diagram accurately in the mind and visualize it. This visualization technique may sound simple but is quite tough to achieve, one must spend years of sadhana just to create an accurate image of the diagram in their head. 

One can start by sitting in a comfortable posture facing east with an accurate image of Dhoomavati Yantra at their Eye Level. 

Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts.

Start by focusing on the Centre Point Bindu with your gaze going inward to outward from the Bindu to the 1^st Layer of the Circle to the 2^nd Layer of the 8 petals of Lotus to the 3^rd Layer of the Circle to the 4^th Layer of the emerging little 16 Lotus petals contained within the bigger 16 petals to the 5^th Layer of this 16 petals in the outer side to the 6^th Layer of the Squares enclosing the yantra in the outermost part. These are the steps or Avaran of Dhoomavati yantra.

Then your gaze should go from the Outermost Gate back to the Bindu. 

Try to avoid blinking your eyes during this process. You can do this for multiple rounds for 30 minutes.

After you can focus with intent for at least 30 minutes (the stamina to just focus may take quite some time to develop) close your eyes and try to recreate the image of the Dhoomavati Yantra Diagram accurately. 

Once you can create and sustain an accurate image of Dhoomavati Yantra in your mind try to focus one by one on the steps mentioned above and go from Bindu to Outermost gate & Back to Bindu however all this needs to be done in your mind in meditation with your eyes closed.
