What is a Parad Shivling
A Shivling is the symbol of the union of Lord Shiva with Goddess Parvati. It can also be perceived as the amalgamation of the female nature with the male, of the Divine with Maya (illusion). A Shivling can be made using different materials, both in metal and stone. Parad is solidified mercury that has been purified many times over and a Parad Shivling is made entirely out of this silvery, viscous metal. They are available in a variety of sizes.
The Shivling also represents Lord Shiva who is known as Mahamrityunjay – Conqueror of Death. Parad is a metal that holds utmost importance in religion and spirituality. Various Puranas, Tantras, and Shastras have referred to Parad as the semen or seed of Lord Shiva. Therefore, a Parad Lingam is the purest and most auspicious symbol of Shiva, having amazing spiritual powers.
Worshipping this Shivling can eliminate all previous sins and cleanse a person from within. Performing a Parad Shivling Puja can generate immense positive energy and bring prosperity to your home. However, it is important to do this puja in the right way and to be fully committed to Sadhana.
How to Worship Parad Shivling at Home:
It is important that you place the Parad Shivling in a pure and undisturbed room/mandir in your home. The bottom part, from where the water poured on the Lingam drains away, should face the north east direction. Then, you need to do a Pranprathistha for the Shivling. You can offer Bael (wood apple) leaves, cold unpasteurized milk and fruits for the puja. The first thing that you should offer the Shivling is a Panchamrit, a mixture of curd, gangajal, milk, jaggery, ghee and honey.
Refrain from offering Tulsi (basil) leaves, Champa or Kewda flowers while performing the Parad Shivling puja and vidhi; you can use other white flowers. Also, while worshipping the Shivling you need not put kumkum tilak like you do for other idols. You can apply a tilak of sandalwood paste instead.
You can use a naag yoni stand made of gold, silver or brass to do the abhishek of the linga. Use a jaldhara with the Parad Shivling for positive effects. These are some of the important aspects to be kept in mind while worshipping the Parad Shivling at home.
