Hanuman Jayanti falling on 11th April 2017 Tuesday is celebrated to commemorate the birth of Hanuman, the Vanara god, widely venerated in the Vedic scriptures. Jayanti is derived from the Sanskrit words ‘Jaya’ and ‘Anta’ which mean ‘victory’ and ‘end’ (in the end); the one who triumphs in the end. The one who stands victorious despite odds is worshipped on their day.

Lord Hanuman who assisted Lord Rama in a battle against the evil forces of Ravana emerged victorious. Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the 15th day of the Shukla Paksha, during the month of Chaitra.

Vedas mention the specific ways of worshipping deities. One may follow the methods of worship as given in the scriptures, wear sacred items such as Rudraksha beads, gemstones connected with the deities or reading legends or stories of those deities on their day.
