What is Dhanvantari Yantra?

Yantras are intricate and powerful geometric diagrams that hold profound significance in various cultures and traditions. They are geometric representations of specific Deities/Energies like how Mantras are audio/verbal representations of different Gods. Yantras act as channels to invoke the blessings and qualities of these specific deities. The Dhanvantari Yantra is regarded as a powerful tool for health and well-being as it embodies Bhagawan Dhanvantari, which is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Divinity of Sustenance and Protection. He is widely regarded as the deity who gave us Ayurveda, the ancient science of medicine. Thereby, he is gratefully honored as the ‘Father of Ayurveda’. As per a popular story, during the Samudramathan, Lord Dhanvantari emerged from the churning of the Ocean with the nectar of immortality to save celestial beings. In Hinduism, it is a common practice for devotees to seek the blessings of Bhagawan Dhanvantari for good health for themselves and others, and particularly during the day of Dhanteras or Dhanvantari Trayodashi (National Ayurveda Day).

The 2-dimensional diagram of Dhanvantari Yantra comprises a Shaktona or two inverted Triangles standing for the divine unification of Shiva (masculine energy) and Shakti (feminine energy) which is the source of all creation. With Lotus petals and circles, this yantra has the symbol OM etched at its centre point or Bindu and the Dhanvantri mantra is etched and surrounded by the diagram's two outermost circles, creating a sacred space within which the energies of the yantra are contained and amplified in a continuous progression and rotation. These circles also serve as a protective shield, shielding against negative influences and enhancing and reinforcing the positive healing energies of this powerful yantra. Its squares on its borders are related with the physical realm hence physical healing can be manifest. Taken together, this is a powerful healing yantra particularly good and beneficial to be installed in the dwelling of a person suffering from a physical or mental condition, whether it is acute or chronic. As well as to prevent diseases and decay and to preserve good health in people who are predisposed to certain conditions, those who are prone to particular seasonal pains or elderly people.

Bhagawan Dhanvantari offered the universe the elixir of life – Amrit – that was considered to have the power to treat any ailment and deliver eternal life – key to immortality. It is not a surprise that he is acknowledged as this renowned Vedic physician and an exemplary doctor who blessed the world with the science of Ayurveda in the field of medicine. Therefore, Bhagawan Dhanvantari is also referred to as the Father of Ayurveda. This deity is worshiped all over India as the “God of Medicine”.

Ayurveda is believed to be an alternative medicine system that has its origins in the Indian subcontinent. It is also considered to be a branch of the Vedas. This stream of knowledge and wisdom in the field of medicine was passed down from generation to generation, similar to the way Vedic scriptures and Vedic literature were. As per legends, Ayurveda was founded by Brahma (Creator), and this science was passed from one celestial being to the other. The knowledge of Ayurveda is endless and shows itself in each of the cycles of the formation of the universe.

The Dhanvantari Yantra is revered by doctors and other people who work in the field of health care. It is thought that it gives doctors blessings, knowledge, and skill, which makes them better at their jobs and helps prescribed treatments work.

How to Meditate on Dhanvantari Yantra? (Visualization Technique)

Meditating on the Dhanvantari Yantra is the most powerful way to achieve union with the diagram. Achieving the union is said to reveal all secrets of the world and one is supposed to gain access to knowledge of higher realms. In an oversimplified sense one must recreate the Dhanvantari Yantra diagram accurately in the mind and visualize it. This visualization technique may sound simple but is quite tough to achieve, one must spend years of sadhana just to create an accurate image of the diagram in their head.

One can start by sitting in a comfortable posture facing east with an accurate image of Dhanvantari Yantra at their Eye Level.

Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts.

Start by focusing on the Centre Point Bindu with your gaze going inward to outward from the Bindu to the 1st Layer of the Shaktona or two interlocked triangles or six-pointed Star to the 2nd Layer with a Circle to the 3rd Layer with 8 Petals to the 4th Layer with a Circle to the 5th Layer having Dhanvantari mantra etched in circular motion to the 6th Layer of the outermost Circle to the 7th Layer of the Squares at the borders of the yantra. These are the steps or Avaran of Dhanvantari yantra.

Then your gaze should go from the Outermost Gate back to the Bindu.

Try to avoid blinking your eyes during this process. You can do this for multiple rounds for 30 minutes.

After you can focus with intent for at least 30 minutes (the stamina to just focus may take quite some time to develop) close your eyes and try to recreate the image of the Dhanvantari Yantra Diagram accurately.

Once you can create and sustain an accurate image of Dhanvantari Yantra in your mind try to focus one by one on the steps mentioned above and go from Bindu to Outermost gate & Back to Bindu however all this needs to be done in your mind in meditation with your eyes closed.

This visualization technique takes many years to master and bless the Sadhak with material success as well as spiritual augmentation.
