Diwali, the Festival of Lights, is celebrated on the sacred night of Kartik Amavasya in the Hindu lunar calendar. In 2025, it falls on 20th October (Monday). This festival symbolizes prosperity, abundance, purity, and auspiciousness, and inspires the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. It is a time for renewing relationships, embracing positivity, and stepping into a brighter future with grace and devotion.
On this day, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Saraswati, along with Lord Vishnu and Kuber, are worshipped with deep reverence. Astrologically, the conjunction of the Sun and Moon in Libra—a sign ruled by Venus—occurs under the influence of Swati Nakshatra. This powerful alignment is believed to bring harmony, prosperity, and balance, making it an especially auspicious occasion to seek blessings, attract wealth, and begin new ventures.
Diwali carries with it timeless legends:
According to the Brahmapurana, on this sacred night of Kartik Amavasya, Goddess Mahalakshmi descends to Earth and blesses the home that is pure, illuminated, and adorned with devotion. Those who worship Her with sincerity receive Her divine grace throughout the year.
This grand Vedic puja will include Kalash Sthapana, Panchang Sthapana (Gauri Ganesh, Punyavachan, Shodash Matrika, Navgraha, Sarvotabhadra), 64 Yogini Pujan, Shetrapal Pujan, Swasti Vachan, Sankalpa, Navgraha Pujan (with 108 chants of each planetary mantra), invocation of major deities in Kalash, Ganesh–Lakshmi–Saraswati Abhishek and Pujan, Vishnu Pujan with Vishnu Stuti, Kuber Pujan with mantra japa, recitation of Ganesh Atharvashirsha, Sri Suktam, Saraswati Stotra, Lakshmi Stotra, Kanakdhara Stotra, prayers to books, coins, gold and other wealth, offerings to Goddess Lakshmi, Lakshmi Mantra Japa (11,000 times), Homa, Aarti, and Pushpaanjali.
