During the churning of Mandara Mountain, the mountain started sinking, thus in order to provide support to the sinking mountain Lord Vishnu took the form of Kurma and took the entire mountain on His back acting as the base of the mountain. Kurma avatar signifies stability which is an important aspect of Saturn. A tortoise withdraws itself in the shell when in danger thus, signifying that when we have to face problems in the outer world we can gain the much required strength by the connection with our own inner self.
