What is Katyayani Yantra?

Yantras are intricate and powerful geometric diagrams that hold profound significance in various cultures and traditions. They are geometric representations of specific Deities/Energies like how Mantras are audio/verbal representations of different Gods. Yantras act as channels to invoke the blessings and qualities of these specific deities. The Katyayani Yantra serves as a focal point for concentration and meditation, directing one's devotion and intentions toward her. By meditating on it, or by worshiping the Katyayani Yantra, people seek the blessings of Katyayani for various aspects of life, such as marriage, relationships, fertility, and overcoming obstacles. The design and symbols of the Katyayani Yantra can vary, but it typically consists of geometric shapes such as triangles, squares, circles, and lotus petals. These symbols represent the various divine energies and qualities of the Devi.

The 2-dimensional diagram of Katyayani Yantra comprises a Bindu center with the sacred syllable OM etched on it. The bindu or point at the center represents the main deity associated with the yantra, Katyayani Devi. The deity's entourage is represented in the geometric parts surrounding the center, which is the focal point of convergence between the divine and the worshiper. The Bindu is surrounded by a Shaktona, two interlocked Triangles representing the union of the masculine energies (Shiva) pointing upwards and the feminine energies (Shakti) with 6 stripes directed outwardly to a Circle surrounding it. This unique design stands for the expansiveness and manifestation of the energy of the yantra in the material world.

The yantra has Sanskrit letters and numerals all around, including on its large 6 Petals of Lotus that provides a feeling of blossoming to the central Six-Pointed Star or Shaktona. Four rectangular Squares enclose the sacred diagram in the outermost part of it. Taken together, this simple and powerful geometry embodies the divine essence of Katyayani Devi. These geometric elements are arranged in an aesthetically pleasing and visually captivating design.

As per ancient scriptures all the unmarried gopis in Vrindavana used to daily worship devi Katyayani early in the mornings after taking bath in the river Yamuna. Katyayani is another name for devi Durga. The devi is worshiped by preparing a doll made out of sand mixed with earth from the bank of the Yamuna. Mounted on Her divine lion, Devi Katyayani is the sixth form of Devi Durga. It is believed that Rishi Katyayan, the son of Katya, performed an austere penance with a desire to have Paramba as his daughter. Subsequently, she descended as the divine daughter of Katyayan, eventually called Katyayani.

It is recommended in the Vedic scriptures that a deity may be made from different kinds of material elements; it can be painted, made of metal, made of jewels, made of wood, earth or stone or can be conceived within the heart of the worshiper. After worshiping, it is the custom to pray for some benediction. Unmarried girls used to pray with great devotion to devi Katyayani, addressing her as follows: "O supreme eternal energy of the Personality of Godhead, O supreme mystic power, O supreme controller of this material world, O devi, please be kind to us and arrange for our marriage with the son of Nanda Maharaja, Krishna".

How to Meditate on Katyayani Yantra? (Visualization Technique)

Meditating on the Katyayani Yantra is the most powerful way to achieve union with the diagram. Achieving the union is said to reveal all secrets of the world and one is supposed to gain access to knowledge of higher realms. In an oversimplified sense one must recreate the Katyayani Yantra diagram accurately in the mind and visualize it. This visualization technique may sound simple but is quite tough to achieve, one must spend years of sadhana just to create an accurate image of the diagram in their head.

One can start by sitting in a comfortable posture facing east with an accurate image of Katyayani Yantra at their Eye Level.

Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts.

Start by focusing on the Centre Point Bindu with your gaze going inward to outward from the Bindu to the 1st Layer of the Shaktona or two interlocked triangles to 2nd Layer of the six stripes merging with the circle to the 3rd Layer of the Circle to the 4th Layer of the 6 Petals of Lotus to the 5th Layer of the external circle converging with the Squares in the outermost part. These are the steps or Avaran of Katyayani yantra.

Then your gaze should go from the Outermost Gate back to the Bindu.

Try to avoid blinking your eyes during this process. You can do this for multiple rounds for 30 minutes.

After you can focus with intent for at least 30 minutes (the stamina to just focus may take quite some time to develop) close your eyes and try to recreate the image of the Katyayani Yantra Diagram accurately.

Once you can create and sustain an accurate image of Katyayani Yantra in your mind try to focus one by one on the steps mentioned above and go from Bindu to Outermost gate & Back to Bindu however all this needs to be done in your mind in meditation with your eyes closed.

This visualization technique takes many years to master and bless the Sadhak with material success as well as spiritual augmentation.
