Lord Dattatreya marble idol - I

A dexterously carved Lord Dattatreya idol in White Markana Marble, is hand painted with long lasting colours to highlight different physical attributes, attire, facial expressions etc. Lord Dattatreya is considered the united form of Lord Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh(Shiva) and is highly revered and worshipped in various parts of India. The idol features Lord Dattatreya on a pedestal, standing with His Cow close behind Him. The idol of is crafted in detail and the finer details are accentuated with the hand painting. Lord Dattatreya is depicted with three heads, with hair piled up on top, adorned with Rudraksha bead mala. The middle face is of Lord Brahma, the face on His right is Lord Vishnu, wearing the Urdhava Pundara(tilak) on His forehead and the face on left is Lord Shiva(Mahesh), with the Holy Ganaga flowing from His piled up hair. Dattatreya Maharaj has six hands and in this idol He has the Sudarshan Chakra(Lord Vishnu's discus weapon), Shankh (LordVishnu's Conch shell), Kamandala(water pot of Lord Brahma), Gada (Mace), Trishul(Lord Shiva's Trident) in His five hands and a Lotus in one of His left hands which is casually resting on the back of the Cow. His Cow looks realistic, with painted horns and a colourful quilt on his back and other adornments. There are two Dog sitting in the pedestal, near the Cow's face. Like His Cow.

Lord Dattatreya is always seen with four dogs, which denote the inner instincts of human beings, namely, desire, lust, expectation and thirst. The attire and adornments of Lord Dattatreya, Rudraksha bracelets and armlets, a golden necklace, the weapons etc. are painted with precision. The overall impact of the idol is powerful and evokes devotion in devotees.

Lord Dattatreya is also called Datta Guru and is said to have been self taught. He learnt from Mother Nature and imparted knowledge and wisdom to benefit others. He was a Sanyasi, a Yogi. Lord Dattatreya is worshipped for removing ancestral curse, deeper understanding of spiritual philosophy, knowledge, wisdom, peace, good health, for improving speech or spoken words. The Cow is said to be the celestial, wish fulfilling Kamdhenu Cow, which indicates that when devotees pray with pure intention, their desires are fulfilled. 

He holds the combined attributes of the Divine Triad and is very powerful.

The White Markana Marble is with which this idol is crafted is found only in Makrana, Rajasthan. Markana marble is reputed to be the best quality of marble, with long lasting polish, lustre and seamless texture.
