Pair of Snakes

Lord Shiva (the Destroyer) wears snake as a garland. Lord Vishnu (the Preserver), rests on the body of snake. In the crown of Buddha, we can see the design of Snake.

As per ancient texts, snakes plays a vital role in bringing rainfall, taking security from lightning and bringing peace and wealth to homes. Snakes should be worshiped using its eight names: Ananta, Basuki, Padma, Mahapadma, Takchak, Kulir, Karkat and Sankha. Milk is offered to the snakes as part of the ritual on Naag Panchami.
