The Bhagawan Shiva Panchakshari Mantra “Om Namah Shivaya” (five syllables) is the most powerful and known mantra at the core of the Vedas and Tantra. This mantra is not only used in this but also in other variations in the Himalayan tradition. Among so many different explanatory descriptions of the mantra, the following elaborates the meanings for mantra meditation, leading to Self-Realization. The Panchakshri Yantra embeds the sacred mantra with its five syllables: na-mah-shi-va-ya (sometimes called a six-syllable mantra by including Om), and that is why it is called a five-syllable mantra, or Panchakshara Mantra (panch means five). These five represent the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and space. Thus, the Om Namah Shivaya mantra leads awareness in the reverse order from manifestation back to the source from which manifestation arose. The Panchakshari Mantra has been chanted since ancient times to invoke and worship Bhagawan Shiva. Some believe that Bhagawan Shiva Himself created this Mantra. The Panchakshari Yantra can be worshipped or mediated on, for magical outcome. It provides protection from evil energies and enemies, removes ill effects of malefic planets, heals relationships, fortifies bonding between married couples, brings forth suitable life partners for those who desire, bestows success and abundant blessings of Bhagawan Shiva. It gets energized by the rising rays of the Sun and with the divine vibrations of the East corner and provides positive transformation energies to the dwelling through its mystical geometry.
Yantras are intricate and powerful geometric diagrams that hold profound significance in various cultures and traditions. They are geometric representations of specific Deities/Energies like how Mantras are audio/verbal representations of different Gods. Yantras act as channels to invoke the blessings and qualities of these specific deities. The Panchakshri Yantra bears Bhagawan Shiva’s Panchakshari Mantra, ‘Namah Shivaya’, which is normally chanted as Om Namah Shivaya. The letters are ‘Na’, ‘Ma ‘, ‘Si’, ‘Va’, ‘Ya’, and each letter represents one of the five elements of nature, namely, Earth, Water, Fire, Wind and Sky/ether. This Yantra or sacred tool/instrument, emanates the high vibration of the all-healing Panchakshari Shiva Mantra. The Shri Panchakshari Yantra removes miseries and negative energies, bestows wealth, prosperity, good health, spiritual growth. It draws the supreme energies of Bhagawan Shiva into space.
The 2-dimensional diagram of Panchakshri Yantra comprises the Sanskrit syllables of the Om Namah Shivaya universal mantra in an arrangement of 6 rows and 6 columns holding the powerful vibrational energy of the mantra. The Panchakshari Mantra is carefully carved on the Yantra in Devnagari script. The Yantra has Bhagawan Shiva’s face etched on top, an Om symbol in the right of Yantra, a Damru on the left side and a Trishul at the bottom of the Yantra. The letters are placed in such a way that the mantra can be read either horizontally or vertically. The etched sacred syllables are OM or AUM which is divided into three parts that widely cover the following three states: waking, dreaming, deep sleep, three levels of gross, subtle, causal, and the three levels of conscious, unconscious, subconscious. NAMAH means “nothing is mine (as an individual person); everything is thine (as the Absolute Reality)”. SHIVAYA is the Absolute Reality, and others emerge from this ground. In the Realization of this, the conclusion is that he and she are the same and completely one with the Absolute Reality. Taken together, regular gazing at the Panchakshri Yantra appeases Bhagawan Shiva and liberates one from the cycle of birth and death. Individuals performing sadhana should keep patience and stay calm and have faith in the Almighty.

Namakam (chapter five) and Chamakam (chapter seven) are the respective chapter names. The mantra appears without the initial Om in the eighth hymn of Namakam as Namaḥ śivāya ca śivatarāya ca (Sanskrit: नमःशिवायचशिवतरायच). This means "Salutations to Shiva, the auspicious one, and to Sivatara, the most auspicious of all beings."

Meditating on the Panchakshri Yantra is the most powerful way to achieve union with the diagram. Achieving the union is said to reveal all secrets of the world and one is supposed to gain access to knowledge of higher realms. In an oversimplified sense one must recreate the Panchakshri Yantra diagram accurately in the mind and visualize it. This visualization technique may sound simple but is quite tough to achieve, one must spend years of sadhana just to create an accurate image of the diagram in their head.
One can start by sitting in a comfortable posture facing east with an accurate image of Panchakshri Yantra at their Eye Level.
Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts.
Start by focusing on the first square of the upper left part containing an empty space and move your gaze horizontally towards the upper right part of the yantra. Now do the same from the first empty square moving your gaze vertically towards the last syllable at the bottom left square of the column. Next, keep moving your gaze towards from here horizontally to the last syllable on the lower right part of the bottom arrow, then continue moving your gaze through the sacred mantra horizontally and vertically in the rest of arrows until returning back to the initial starting point (OM) of the empty space at the upper left part of the yantra. These are the steps or Avaran of Panchakshri yantra.
Try to avoid blinking your eyes during this process. You can do this for multiple rounds for 30 minutes.
After you can focus with intent for at least 30 minutes (the stamina to just focus may take quite some time to develop) close your eyes and try to recreate the image of the Panchakshri Yantra Diagram accurately.
Once you can create and sustain an accurate image of Panchakshri Yantra in your mind try to focus one by one on the steps mentioned above, however all this needs to be done in your mind in meditation with your eyes closed.
This visualization technique takes many years to master and bless the Sadhak with material success as well as spiritual augmentation.
