Pashupati is a divine form of Lord Shiva, revered as “The Lord and Protector of all beings”. Worshipped deeply by Shaivites across the world—especially in Nepal, where He is honoured as Pashupatinath—this sacred form embodies compassion, guardianship, and universal care for all living creatures.

The five faces of Lord Pashupatinath symbolize His all-encompassing nature and divine manifestations—Sadyojata (West), Vamdeva (North), Tatpurusha (East), Aghora (South), and Ishana (Zenith). Together, they represent the five fundamental elements of creation: earth, water, air, fire (light), and ether, reflecting Shiva’s presence in every aspect of existence.

The name Pashupatinath is derived from three Sanskrit words—‘Pashu’ (all living beings), ‘Pati’ (protector), and ‘Nath’ (Lord). Thus, He is the compassionate guardian of all creatures, guiding them towards harmony, protection, and spiritual upliftment. This powerful puja is traditionally performed for purification of past karmas, spiritual growth, prosperity, and divine blessings.

It is also especially meaningful for invoking protection and well-being for all living beings under one’s care—including beloved house pets—seeking their health, safety, and peaceful life.
