The Pitru Dosha Nivaran Puja is ritual performed to pacify ancestors (Pitris) and clear ancestral karmic imbalances that may be affecting one’s life. According to Vedic astrology, Pitru Dosha arises due to unfulfilled duties or unresolved issues of ancestors, which can manifest as obstacles, financial struggles, delays in marriage, health issues, or disharmony in family life. This puja seeks to honor and appease the departed souls, ensuring their peace and blessings, while removing the negative influences of Pitri Dosha from the individual’s life.
By performing this sacred ritual, devotees receive the blessings of their ancestors, paving the way for harmony, prosperity, and overall well-being in the family. The vibrations of Pitru Dosha mantras bring peace to departed souls and restore balance in the lineage, allowing individuals to progress spiritually and materially.
In Shradh rituals, Pind Daan is a sacred offering made to the departed souls in the form of rice balls known as pindas. These pinds are typically made using a mixture of cooked rice, black sesame seeds (til), barley or wheat flour, ghee, and holy water. The pind represents the subtle body (sūkṣma sharīra) of the departed soul and is offered with devotion to aid their journey in the afterlife, grant them peace, and help resolve any lingering karmic attachments.
In Shradh or Pitru Dosh Puja a total of 16 Pindaas are offered:
