The lustrous Vasuki Narmada Shivling is named after the Snake/Serpent Vasuki, who is wrapped around Lord Shiva\'s neck and is seen protectively above the Shivling with its fanned hood. Mythology says, Vasuki was the King of Snakes and was used as the rope to churn the Celestial Milky Ocean during Samudra Manthan. It is said that Vasuki also volunteered to consume the poison Halahala, along with Lord Shiva, to stop the destruction of the Universe. This impressed the Divine Lord Shiva and earned Vasuki a place around His neck.
