Amethyst Stone

Amethyst was worn as a protective amulet by Egyptian royalty when they traveled abroad from major cities in the ancient world. They believed it provided protection against personal treachery. Amethyst is the Bishop's Stone because it is a talisman of clerical dignity and spiritual protection. A Catholic bishop still wears it on the second finger of his right hand. It is a focus and success talisman used in meditation to enhance creativity and sharpen the mind. The Neolithic era in Europe began using amethyst as early as 25,000 B.C. Its spiritual and mystical energies made it a popular material for beads and amulets in numerous cultures. Later, it was used in crowns, scepters, and jewelry as a royal stone and considered as one of the most precious stones in the world alongside rubies, sapphires, emeralds and diamonds until the 18th century.
