Durga Saptashati Path Puja Durga Saptashati, also known as Devi Mahatmya or Chandi Path, is one of the most revered scriptures dedicated to Maa Durga. Contained in the Markandeya Purana, it comprises 700 sacred verses across 13 chapters that glorify the Divine Mother and Her supreme power to protect Dharma and overcome negative forces.

The Durga Saptashati describes the manifestations of the Divine Mother and Her victories over powerful Asuras such as Madhu-Kaitabha, Mahishasura, Shumbha and Nishumbha. The Divine Mother is glorified through the powers of Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati, representing different aspects of the supreme Shakti. 

At a deeper level, the battles described in the Durga Saptashati represent the victory of Divine Shakti over ignorance, ego, fear, negativity and forces that obstruct Dharma. Its recitation invokes Maa Durga's grace for protection, peace, strength, prosperity and spiritual transformation.

Significance of Durga Saptashati Path

Durga Saptashati Path is traditionally performed with Sankalpa for specific purposes. Depending upon the nature and intensity of the Sankalpa, prescribed numbers of complete recitations are performed. 
Each Path consists of the complete recitation of all 13 chapters and 700 verses. Higher numbers of Paths constitute increasingly elaborate Anushthans, with traditional prescriptions associating particular numbers of recitations with specific purposes.

5 Paths: Prescribed for Graha Peeda Nivritti—relief from adverse planetary influences. 
9 Paths: Prescribed for Shanti—peace and pacification. 
12 Paths: Prescribed for Shatru Nashana—overcoming enemies and opposition. 
14 Paths: Prescribed for Vashya—gaining favourable influence and support. 
25 Paths: Prescribed for freedom from bondage or imprisonment. 
108 Paths: Traditionally performed for fulfilment of the desired wish or Sankalpa.

Kalash Sthapana, Panchang Sthapana and Pujan (Gauri Ganesh, Punyavachan, Shodash Matrika, Navgraha and Sarvatobhadra), Chatushashti Yogini Pujan, Kshetrapal Pujan, Swasti Vachan, Sankalpa, Ganesh Pujan, Durga Idol and Yantra Abhishek and Pujan, Durga Saptashati Path comprising 13 chapters and 700 verses, repeated as per the selected number of Paths, Navarna Mantra Japa 1,100 times, Homa, Aarti and Pushpanjali.
