Dogs, especially black dogs, are associated with Ketu. Feeding dogs not only helps pacify the malefic effects of planet Ketu, but the act also blesses them with protection against all negativities. Feeding various animals in the Hindu Dharma is understood to have both planetary and karmic benefits. It is an act of compassion and is equivalent to doing charity or helping the needy.
