Gayatri Mantra Japa and Yajna

The Gayatri Mantra is one of the most sacred mantras of the Vedic tradition. Revealed to Rishi Vishwamitra and found in the Rig Veda, it is addressed to Savitur, the divine solar principle that illumines and inspires the intellect. Maa Gayatri is revered as Ved Mata, the Mother of the Vedas, and as the divine embodiment of the Gayatri Mantra.

Traditionally, Gayatri Mantra Japa is performed for Shuddhi (purification), awakening of Buddhi (higher intellect), spiritual wisdom and righteous living. Its recitation invokes divine illumination so that one's thoughts, understanding and actions may be guided towards Dharma. 

In Gayatri Yajna, the sacred mantra is offered with Ahutis into Agni, invoking its divine energy through the sacred fire. The Puja, Japa and Yajna are performed with Sankalpa in the name of the participant to seek Maa Gayatri's blessings for wisdom, intelligence, clarity, well-being and spiritual advancement.

Gayatri Mantra:

भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात्॥

Transliteration:

Om Bhur Bhuvah Svah Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi Dhiyo Yo Nah Prachodayat

Meaning:

“We meditate upon the divine radiance of Savitur, worthy of worship. May that divine light illuminate and inspire our intellect.”
