Maa Sherawali Durga Devi Brass Idol

The Maa Sherawali idol is exquisitely portrayed in heavy brass. She is seen to be riding on a tiger.

According to a narrative, in the Devi Mahatmya story of the Markandeya Purana text, Maa Durga was created as a warrior goddess to fight an Asura named Mahishasur, who had unleashed a reign of terror on earth and heaven. He could not be defeated by any man or God. The combined forces of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva created Goddess Durga. Each of her weapons was gifted to her by various Gods; Lord Rudra's trident, Lord Vishnu's discus, Lord Indra's thunderbolt, Lord Brahma's kamandalu and Lord Kuber's ratnahar.
