About Moksh Prapti Puja: Atama Shanti Meaning

The Moksha Prapti Puja and Yajna are conducted for a departed soul by the close family members of offsprings so that the soul attains peace and liberation to proceed on its journey easily. The term Moksh or Moksha means to get liberated from the cycle of birth and death and Prapti means to attain which is the literal Moksh Prapti meaning. Atma means soul and Shanti means peace.

Why do Moksh Prapti Puja After Death

The significance of this puja is mentioned in various Hindu Puranas such as Agni Purana, Garuda Purana, and Matsya Purana. Moksh ki prapti is important for every transcended soul. This Vedic ritual is done to fulfill and satiate the unsatisfied desires of the deceased soul which is trapped in the worldly plain due to strong desires that remain implanted in the soul even after death. The Moksh prapti Puja involves rituals and recitation of mantra to attain Moksha which cleanses all the sins and helps the departed loved one rest in peace, frees the soul from the Earthly plain with their souls liberated and the family gets the chance to seek the blessings from the departed soul.

As specified in ancient texts, the Moksha prapti puja has to be done on any day between the 3rd day of demise up to the 11th day of demise and after cremation/burial only. This is a 2-day puja. On one day the puja, paath, and Japa rituals would be done and on the 11th day after the demise date, pind daan and donation would be done.
