For: Nakshatra Shanti Puja is done to mitigate the malefic effects of a person's birth star and ensure peace, prosperity, and well-being
A Nakshatra is one of the 27 divisions of the sky, each covering thirteen degrees and twenty minutes of the zodiac. Each Nakshatra represents a specific group of stars. The star constellation in which the Moon is placed at the time of one's birth is called the Janma Nakshatra. The Janma Nakshatra influences our thinking patterns, nature, destiny, instincts, and subconscious aspects of our personality.
To neutralize the malefic effects of planets during their main periods (Maha Dasha) or sub-periods (Antar Dasha) and to gain beneficial results, scriptures prescribe the significance of Nakshatra Puja and Homam. The Nakshatra is worshipped with prescribed rituals, mantras, and offerings. This worship provides inner strength, confidence, and desirable outcomes. As per Vedas, performing a Nakshatra Shanti Homam every year brings overall beneficial effects and removes doshas.
Out of the 27 Nakshatras, there are 7 that are considered inauspicious due to their challenging astrological influences. These are called Gand Mool Nakshatras. Nakshatra Shanti Puja is performed specifically for natives born under these Nakshatras—Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola, Revati, and Chitra—to mitigate their effects. This ritual involves praying to the ruling deities of these Nakshatras with prescribed mantras and offerings to balance planetary influences and ensure well-being.
The Gandmool Nakshatra and their ruling deities are:
Ashwini (1st Pada) - Ruling Deity: Ashwini Kumaras
Ashlesha (4th Pada) - Ruling Deity: Nagas (Serpents)
Magha (1st Pada) - Ruling Deity: Pitris (Ancestors)
Jyeshtha (4th Pada) - Ruling Deity: Indra
Moola (1st Pada) - Ruling Deity: Nirriti
Revati (4th Pada) - Ruling Deity: Pushan
Chitra (4th Pada) - Ruling Deity: Tvashtar (Vishvakarman)
