Durga Temple is located in the holy city of Varanasi; the temple is often referred to as Monkey Temple. The temple got the name monkey temple as the temple is inhabited by numerous monkeys. The 18th century temple is dedicated to Goddess Durga and is built in Nagara Style architecture by a Bengali Maharani. The temple is thronged by thousands of devotees, especially during the Navratri festival. The idol of Goddess Durga in the temple is not manmade; it is believed that the idol appeared on its own as Goddess Durga resides at this place and protect Varanasi. The Durga Temple also has a water tank named as Durga Kind which adds to the beauty of the temple. Every year on Nag Panchami, an act in which Lord Vishnu reclining on Shesh Naag is recreated in the Durga Kund.
