Shukra Vedic Mantra Purashcharan Puja

Shukra (Venus) is one of the nine celestial influences in Vedic astrology and is revered as Shukracharya, the Guru of the Asuras. He governs love, marriage, relationships, beauty, attraction, creativity, wealth, luxury, material comforts and worldly pleasures.

A strong and favourably placed Shukra in the birth chart is associated with harmonious relationships, prosperity, artistic talents, personal charm and enjoyment of life's comforts. An afflicted or weakened Shukra may be associated with distractions, difficulties in marriage and relationships, financial instability, lack of fulfilment, excessive indulgence and obstacles in enjoying material comforts.

Shukra Vedic Mantra Purashcharan Vidhi is an elaborate Vedic ritual in which the sacred Shukra Vedic Mantra is chanted 1,25,000 times, followed by Havan and other prescribed rituals. It is traditionally performed to strengthen the auspicious influence of Shukra and seek blessings for love, harmony, prosperity, attraction and fulfilment.

Sanskrit:

ॐ अन्नात् परिस्रुतो रसं ब्रह्मणा व्यपिबत् क्षत्रं पयः सोमं प्रजापतिः।

ऋतेन सत्यमिन्द्रियं विपानं शुक्रं अन्धस इन्द्रस्येन्द्रियमिदं पयोऽमृतं मधु॥

English Transliteration:

Om Annat Parisruto Rasam Brahmana Vyapibat Kshatram Payah Somam Prajapatih।

Rtena Satyam Indriyam Vipaanam Shukram Andhasa Indrasya Indriyam Idam Payo Amritam Madhu॥

Meaning and Significance of the Mantra

This Vedic mantra invokes the essence of nourishment, vitality, strength, truth and divine nectar. It speaks of the subtle essence extracted from food, the nourishing power of Soma, the strength of Indra and the immortalising sweetness of divine energy.

The word Shukram in the mantra signifies purity, brightness and vital essence. Although the original Vedic verse does not directly address the planet Venus, it is traditionally adopted in Shukra Graha worship.

In astrological worship, the mantra is associated with the refinement of desires, attraction, vitality, material abundance and the harmonious enjoyment of worldly pleasures.

Why Is Purashcharan Performed?

Purashcharan is an intensive spiritual discipline involving a prescribed number of mantra repetitions, followed by supporting Vedic rituals such as Havan, Tarpan and other offerings.

Unlike regular mantra chanting, Purashcharan involves systematic repetition with Sankalpa, discipline and ritual observances to deepen the spiritual practice.

In this Vidhi, the Shukra Vedic Mantra is chanted 1,25,000 times, traditionally followed by Havan with 12,500 offerings, representing one-tenth of the total Japa count.

The purpose is to invoke the auspicious qualities associated with Shukra, reduce the effects traditionally attributed to an afflicted Venus and seek harmony in relationships, prosperity and fulfilment.
