A lunar eclipse, known in Sanskrit as Chandra Grahan, occurs when the Earth comes between the Moon and the Sun, casting a shadow over the Moon. While astronomically it is a celestial alignment, Vedic Astrology views it as a deeply significant spiritual and karmic event. The Moon, or Lord Chandra, governs the mind, emotions, peace, and stability of an individual.
The total lunar eclipse is caused by the Moon coming close to the lunar node axis, specifically near Rahu. Astronomical ephemeris shows the Moon in Aquarius (Kumbha Rashi), aligned with Rahu’s position. Hence, astrologically, this is considered a Rahu–Chandra Grahan.
The impact of such a dosha is mentioned in Vedic texts such as Brihat Samhita and Phaldeepika, where eclipses are described as moments of disruption in cosmic harmony. If a person is born during an eclipse or if the Moon is eclipsed in their natal chart, they may face obstacles, emotional instability, lack of clarity, and setbacks in personal or professional life. Therefore, Vedic seers have advised that eclipses are times for prayer, chanting, and remedies to protect oneself from negativity and restore balance.
Performing a Chandra Grahan Puja during or around the eclipse period is highly beneficial. Prayers offered during this sensitive time not only pacify the afflicted Moon but also align the mind with divine vibrations. By invoking Lord Chandra and the Navagrahas through mantra, homa, and shanti rituals, one receives protection from the adverse effects of the eclipse and opens the path for peace, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
Scriptures affirm that spiritual practices performed during an eclipse give multiplied results. The veil of the eclipse makes the human mind more sensitive and receptive to divine grace. By engaging in mantra japa, sankalpa, and puja, one can dissolve past karmic blocks, reduce emotional turbulence, and channel the powerful cosmic energies for healing and transformation.
Participating in the Chandra Grahan Dosha Nivaran Puja brings multiple blessings:
Through this sacred worship, one receives the grace of Lord Chandra, who restores calmness, nurtures emotional well-being, and strengthens the power of the mind. When performed with devotion in the prescribed Vedic manner, the Chandra Grahan Puja transforms the eclipse from a time of fear into a moment of divine renewal.
