The Ten Mahavidyas are known as Wisdom Goddesses. In this set, they are finely crafted in Bronze by skilled artisans of South India. Mahavidya means (Maha - great; vidya - knowledge) Goddesses of great knowledge. Shaktas believe that "the one Truth is sensed in ten different facets; the Divine Mother is adored and approached as ten cosmic personalities," the Dasa-Mahavidya ("ten-Mahavidyas"). The Mahavidyas are considered Tantric in nature, and are usually identified as Kali, Tara, Tripura Sundari, Bhuvaneshvari, Chinnamasta, Tripura Bhairavi, Dhumavati, Bagalamukhi, Matangi and Kamala.
