Khatu Shyam Puja

Khatu Shyam is the name and manifestation of Barbareek, grandson of Bhimsen and Hidimba . Also called Shyam Baba, he is known for having supernatural powers. He carried three infallible arrows (Teen Baan) which never missed their target. Barbareeka was originally a yaksha who was reborn as a man. He was bound by his principle of always fighting on the losing side. In order to make Pandavas win, he sacrificed Himself and his head stood witness to the battle of Mahabharata. In return for his sacrifice, he was deified as Shyam which is a name of Lord Krishna by a boon given by the Lord Himself. He is called “Sheesh ka Daani” (Donor of head) by his devotees. He fulfils all wishes of his devotees who worship him with a pure heart. He is known as “Haare ka Sahara” (Helper of the Loser).
