Maa Baglamukhi is the eighth of the Das Mahavidyas and represents the power of Stambhana, the Divine capacity to arrest, restrain or still forces that create disturbance and harm.

She is traditionally depicted in golden-yellow garments, holding the tongue of an adversarial figure while raising a club in Her other hand. This powerful imagery should not be understood only as victory over an external enemy. At a deeper level, the tongue represents uncontrolled speech, harmful expression and the restless forces of the mind that must first be brought under conscious control.

Maa Baglamukhi is traditionally invoked for protection, victory in difficult situations, overcoming opposition and restraining harmful influences. Her worship is also associated with the power of speech, argument and the ability to remain composed in challenging circumstances.

In certain astrological traditions, Maa Baglamukhi is associated with Mars (Mangal), though planetary correspondences of the Mahavidyas vary between traditions.

The deepest power of Baglamukhi is the power to stop. Before transformation can occur, there are moments when movement itself must cease.
