Maa Brahmacharini Puja and Homa

The second day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Brahmacharini, the second form of Navdurga. Her name signifies one who follows the path of Brahman through discipline, devotion and tapasya.

Maa Brahmacharini represents the form of Maa Parvati who undertook intense penance to attain Lord Shiva as Her divine consort. Renouncing worldly comforts, She remained unwavering in Her Sankalpa and performed severe tapasya with extraordinary patience and devotion.

She therefore embodies tapasya, perseverance, self-discipline and complete dedication to one's higher purpose. Her form teaches that true Shakti is not merely external strength but also the inner power to master the senses, remain steadfast and continue upon the chosen path despite difficulties.

Maa Brahmacharini is depicted walking barefoot, holding a Japa Mala in Her right hand and a Kamandalu in Her left. Her simple and radiant appearance represents purity, austerity and unwavering devotion.

Maa Brahmacharini and Svadhishthana Chakra

In the chakra-based understanding of Navdurga worship, the second day is associated with the Svadhishthana Chakra, or Sacral Chakra.

Meditating upon Svadhishthana Chakra during the worship of Maa Brahmacharini signifies developing mastery over desires, impulses and sensory attractions.

Through tapasya and conscious discipline, the seeker learns to direct inner energy towards a higher purpose rather than being governed by it.
