The third day of Navratri is dedicated to Maa Chandraghanta, the third form of Navdurga. Her name derives from the crescent moon adorning Her forehead in the shape of a Ghanta, or bell.
Maa Chandraghanta represents the powerful and warrior aspect of the Divine Mother. Following Her marriage to Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati manifested this majestic form, embodying courage, vigilance and readiness to protect Dharma.
She is depicted with ten arms carrying divine weapons and symbols, riding a lion or tiger. Despite Her formidable appearance, Her countenance remains serene and compassionate, beautifully expressing the union of fearlessness and inner peace. Maa Chandraghanta teaches that courage does not mean the absence of fear. It is the Shakti within that enables us to rise above fear and act with strength, awareness and Dharma.
In the chakra-based understanding of Navdurga worship, the third day is associated with the Manipura Chakra, or Solar Plexus Chakra. Manipura represents inner fire, willpower, confidence and the capacity for purposeful action.
Meditating upon Manipura Chakra while worshipping Maa Chandraghanta signifies awakening the courage to overcome fear, hesitation and inner weakness. The seeker begins to act from inner strength rather than being controlled by circumstances.
