A solar eclipse, known in Sanskrit as Surya Grahan, occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, casting its shadow on Earth and obscuring the Sun’s light. Astronomically, it is a celestial alignment, but in Vedic Astrology it is seen as a profound karmic event that affects the vital force of life itself. The Sun, or Lord Surya, governs health, vitality, authority, success, and the soul’s brilliance.

On 21st September 2025, the solar eclipse occurs with the Sun coming close to the lunar node axis, specifically near Ketu. Astronomical ephemeris shows the Sun in Virgo (Kanya Rashi), aligned with Ketu’s position. Hence, astrologically, this will be considered a Ketu–Surya Grahan.

The impact of such a dosha is highlighted in Vedic texts such as Brihat Samhita and Phaldeepika, which describe eclipses as times when cosmic order is disturbed. If a person is born during a solar eclipse, or if the Sun is eclipsed in their natal chart, they may face obstacles to health, career, confidence, and paternal relationships. For this reason, Vedic seers prescribed that special prayers and remedies should be performed during Surya Grahan to reduce negativity and restore balance.
