Vishnu Vishwaroop Brass Idol

The Vishnu Vishwaroop is intrinsically carved in brass. He is portrayed with multiple heads, standing on a pedestal and His hands holding powerful weapons. His right hand is placed in Abhaya Mudra while his left hand holds a lotus flower. He is shown resting on the coils of a thousand headed Sheshnag, surrounded by Ksheersagara. He is also seen to be wielding a mace in his right hand.

Lord Vishnu represents the aspect of the supreme reality that preserves and sustains the universe. Though there are multiple Vishvaroop theophanies, the most celebrated is in the Bhagavad Gita, narrated by Lord Krishna to Pandava prince Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The 'Viraat' roop of Lord Vishnu was revealed to Arjuna in Mahabharata.

Lord Vishnu is the Lord of preservation. He performs the cosmic function of cohesion. The constructive nature of his cosmic function stands out in contrast against the destructive dispersive power of Lord Shiva. He represents the cosmic cause of existence and the symbolization of eternal life which keeps the universe as one. He is deemed to be omniscient, omnipotent and omnipresent. According to the Padma Purana, Lord Vishnu transformed himself into three powers - Lord Brahma, the Creator, Lord Vishnu, the Preserver and Lord Shiva, the Destroyer. He is the divine arbitrator of all disputes. He ensures the establishment of peace by interceding on behalf of others. He is a personification of tolerance and patience.

The name Vishnu owes its root to the word "Vish", which indicates "spreading in or pervading all directions. He is said to pervade everything just as an infinite ocean from which the universe is said to have emerged.
