Goddess Kamakshi Devi is worshipped for desire fulfilment. The meaning of Her name Kamakshi means “special eyes that have a magnetic pull”. Thus, the name means one who has a beautifully hypnotic, attractive and captivating eyes. But the word 'Kaa' also means Sri Lakshmi and 'maa' means Sri Saraswati, so this Super goddess has Sri Parvathi, Sri Lakshmi and Sri Saraswati as her eyes. She blesses all those who dedicate themselves to her and fulfils all their desires.  

She is the representation of Shri Vidya - Shri Lalita Maha Tripurasundari. Here once when Sage Durvasa worshiped Goddess Kamakshi to get rid of a curse he installed the Sri Chakra and wrote Durvasa Samhita in which he laid down the correct procedure to worship Goddess Kamakshi. Legends goes that Raja Dashratha prayed to Goddess Kamakshi Devi for blessings of sons and was blessed with Lord Ram and His brothers. So, childless couples worship Goddess Kamakshi Devi for blessings of children.
