Shiva Puran is one of the most important Vedic scriptures associated with Lord Shiva. It is one of the eighteen primary Puranas in Hinduism. Shiva Maha Purana was is believed to be written by Ved Vyasa and later compiled by Sage Romaharshana, a disciple of Ved Vyasa. The Purana consists of 12 Samhitas or chapters which details various aspects and attributes of Lord Shiva. The 12 Samhitas of Shiva Purana are Vidyeshvara Samhita, Rudra Samhita, Vainayaka Samhita, Uma Samhita, Matri Samhita, Rudraikadasha Samhita, Kailasa Samhita, Shatarudra Samhita, Sahasrakotirudra Samhita, Kotirudra Samhita, Vayaviya Samhita, and Dharma Samhita. Shiva Purana details significance of various Shiv lingams, various methods of worships, Lord Shiva incarnations as Jyotirlinga and more, various legends and beliefs associated with Lord Shiva and more. It is believed that Devotees who recite Shiva Purana with utmost sincerity and devotion get all their desires and wishes fulfilled. Shiva Purana is glorified as warmth of the Sun and tranquility of the Moon by sages and devotees alike.
