Shravan Maas (30th July–28th August 2026)—also known as Sawan Month—is one of the holiest periods in the Hindu calendar. It marks the fifth month of the Hindu lunar year and is regarded as an exceptionally auspicious time for devotion, penance, and deepening one's connection with Bhagwan Shiva.
The Mondays of Shravan, known as Shravan Somwar, are considered especially sacred for the worship of Lord Shiva. It is said that prayers, Rudrabhishek, fasting, mantra japa, and offerings made on these days bring His abundant grace, helping devotees attain good health, prosperity, spiritual growth, fulfilment of desires, and freedom from obstacles. According to the North Indian (Purnimanta) calendar, the four Shravan Mondays in 2026 fall on 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 24th August.
To invoke the powerful blessings of Lord Shiva during this sacred month, Rudra Centre will conduct the Shravan Maas Mahapuja every Shravan Monday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. IST. The Mahapuja will be performed by a team of 9 learned Brahmins following authentic Vedic traditions and will be live-streamed for devotees worldwide.
The name Shravan is derived from the Sanskrit root “śravaṇa,” meaning “hearing” or “listening.” Spiritually, this represents the inner listening—śravaṇa jñāna—a time when one becomes more receptive to divine truths and guidance. Astrologically, this period aligns with the transit of the Moon through Shravan Nakshatra, which is ruled by Vishnu. This makes it an ideal time for spiritual study, meditation, and rituals that invoke higher consciousness.
Shravan marks the beginning of Chaturmasya, the four-month period of divine observance comprising Shravan, Bhadrapada, Ashwin, and Kartik. It is believed that on Devshayani Ekadashi, just before Shravan begins, Lord Vishnu enters Yoganidra (cosmic sleep) and retreats from His role in sustaining the universe. During this sacred time, Lord Shiva assumes the responsibility of upholding the cosmic order. As Vishnu sleeps in meditative stillness, Shiva’s active presence becomes more pronounced and accessible to seekers of truth and transformation.
Thus, this month is not only associated with the worship of Shiva—it is also seen as a cosmic shift, when devotees are encouraged to turn inward. The universe itself supports sadhana, purification, and alignment with dharma.
In this Maha Puja, Lord Shiva will be worshipped through the sacred chants of Rudram Namakam and Chamakam, Rudrasuktam, Shivashtakam, Nirvanashtakam, and powerful Shiva Stotras and Stutis. The Abhisheka of the Shiva Linga will be performed with holy Ganga water, milk, curd, ghee, honey, coconut water, Panchamrit, fruit juices, sacred ash (bhasma), and exotic herbs. Offerings of 1008 Belpatra, Bael fruit, Bhaang, and Dhatura—Shiva’s most loved items—will be made to invoke His deepest blessings.
