The glorious Navratri festival that venerates the nine powerful manifestations of the Divine Mother, Maa Durga, comes to its final day with the worship of the most magnificent Maa Siddhidatri. The name Siddhidatri is a compound of 'Siddhi' which means perfection, unusual skills and powers and 'datri" means the giver. And this epithet is suitable for the enchanting Maa Siddhidatri who posses all 8 Siddhis and blesses Her devotees with 26 different wishes when invoked on Navratri 9th day puja.
As per Markendey Puran, there are mainly eight types of Siddhi - Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakyamya, Inshitva, and Vashitva. Each of these are unusual powers which can be achieved by Sadhana. In Her form of Maa Siddhidatri, She removes ignorance and provides knowledge which help Sadhaks and devotees in these accomplishments. Maa Siddhidatri is depicted with four arms sitting on Lotus flower. Her arms hold Gada (Mace), Sudarshan Chakra(Discus), Shankh (Conch shell) and Lotus flower. Her appearance glows in Red Saree. Her procession is Lion. The Maa Siddhidatri form of Durga is said to be worshipped by all Gods, Rishis-Munis, Siddhas, Yogis, Sadhakas and devotees for attaining the best religious and spiritual assets and Siddhis.
It is believed that Lord Shiva had obtained all eight Siddhis due to the grace of Maa Siddhidatri and She transformed Him into the glorification of 'Ardhanarishwar', which is the half Devi and half Lord Shiva swarup, the form which depicts the confluence of the Divine Male and Divine Female.
It is believed that Maa Siddhidatri provides direction and energy to planet Venus (Shukra). Hence planet Venus (Shukra) is governed by Her.
Maa Siddhidatri’s famous pilgrimage centre is located in Nanda Parvat in the Himalayas.
