The Trimbak (Trimbakeshwar) is the best place for the performance of Kalsarpa Shanti or Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran Pooja. It is located in Trimbak (Trimbakeshwar tehsil) in the Nashik District of Maharashtra. Considered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, it plays an essential role in making the Kaal Sarp Pooja more effective and influential. According to the Shiva Purana, a Jyotirlinga is a divine light personifying the all-auspicious Shiva. It is the radiant/divine light of Shiva. What causes this Dosha?
If a person kills or causes the death of a snake or an innocent animal, he attains the Kaal Sarpa Dosha in his next birth. In the Vedic astrology, when all the seven planets come between Rahu and Ketu he is said to have this dosha. If not all but a fewer planets come between Rahu and Ketu, the dosha is said to be minimal.
Kaal Sarpa Shanti puja is performed to nullify Kaal Sarpa Dosha which negatively impacts every aspect (personal, professional social etc.) of your life. A person afflicted with the Kaal Sarpa Dosha is said to experience the unusual such as seeing the dead or recently departed family members in his dreams. Also he faces delays and obstacle, emotional instability, low confidence, bad health, loss of wealth, irrecoverable business losses, mental anxiety, deception by friends or enemies, no support from the dear ones, endless struggles and not enough credit to the efforts.

What happens during the Puja? How to perform Kaal Sarpa Pooja Puja?
Ingredients required: New clothes, Puja Altar, Pedestal, Puja Thali, Three Snakes made of Copper, Lead and Sliver, Flowers, Turmeric Powder, Sandal Paste, Vermilion, Betel Leaf or Mango Leaf, Clean Water, Milk, Honey, Diyas (Oil Lamps), Sweet Flour and Some Fruits with Coconut.
Devotee takes bath and puts on the new clothes for the puja. Then he decorates the puja altar with flowers, turmeric paste, sandal paste and vermilion.
Then a pedestal is set up and puja thali is placed on the same. Following this, the devotee keeps all the three metal snakes made of copper, lead on the thali.
Then a small cone shaped pratima of Ganesha made of turmeric paste is placed on betel leaf or mango leaf in front of those three snakes. Devotee embellishes Lord Ganesh deity with flowers. Then the Pundit ji chants the suitable mantras to invoke the grace of Lord Ganesh.
A Kaal sarpa yantra is installed and chanting of Rudram, Mahamrituyunjaya mantra and Rahu Ketu grahas mantras is performed. A holy bath is offered to the snakes with milk, water and honey. They are then decorated with turmeric paste, sandal paste, vermilion and flower gardens.
Next are Vishnu Sahasranam and Navanag Stotram chanted to invoke their blessings.
Then the diyas made of sweet flour are prepared. They are lit with ghee and placed in front of the Snake deities.
Devotee then offers the coconut, sprouts and betel leaves to the Snake gods. Then a camphor diya is waved in a circular pattern to invoke their grace. While doing so, the devotee thinks about all the issues and prays to the Snakes to help him come out of them.
After the puja is over, the devotee distributes the prasadam among poor people and donates the clothes worn during the ritual to the needy. The snakes are immersed in the kushavarta kunda and the Kaal sarpa yantra is sent to devotee to keep in the alter.
Why is Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja performed at the Trimbakeshwar (Trayambakeshwar) only?
The Trimbak Temple is vibrant with the deities’ Shakti (divine energy) and the presence of three Lingams representing the Trinity Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesha (Shiva). The deities include Gangadevi, Jaleswara, Rameswara, Gautameswara, Kedarnatha, Rama, Krishna, Parasurama and Lakshmi Narayana. This makes the Temple the mist auspicious and vibrant with the Satvik elements. The Srimad Bhagavatam (8.7.22) considers Shiva as the cause of bondage and liberation of the entire universe because as He is its ruler. Those who are advanced in spiritual consciousness surrender unto Shiva. It is He only who mitigates the distresses and it is He only who is the cause of liberation.
Lord Shiva says to His wife Parvati आसां प्राणपरीप्सूनां विधेयमभयं हि मे एतावान्हि प्रभोरर्थो यद् दीनपरिपालनम् ‘It is my duty to give protection and safety to all living entities struggling for existence. Certainly it is the duty of the master to protect his suffering dependents.’
The Temple in a sense is non-different from Shiva making it the holiest place where the reactions of sins are all nullified.
