What is Dakshinamoorthy Yantra?

Yantras are intricate and powerful geometric diagrams that hold profound significance in various cultures and traditions. They are geometric representations of specific Deities/Energies like how Mantras are audio/verbal representations of different Gods. Yantras act as channels to invoke the blessings and qualities of these specific deities. The Dakshinamoorthy Yantra not only encourages spiritual development and provides revealing insights, but it also strengthens the mind and the intellect. Individuals who regularly worship this yantra find that their practice of meditation and other spiritual sadhanas help them gain wisdom, mental calmness and clarity, and a deeper connection to the divine. It is a powerful tool for education, learning, and grasping complex ideas, and spiritual growth.

The 2-dimensional diagram of Dakshinamoorthy Yantra comprises a Square around the Bindu (Center) intertwined by another tilted Square with multiple auspicious Sanskrit syllables etched on them. These two Squares symbolize the harmonious alignment of forces and elements, enabling the harnessing of transformative power to achieve specific goals and spiritual progress. They are surrounded by a Circle and more etched beej mantras and sacred words between. Encircled by 8 petals of Lotus with engraved beej mantras each, they denote higher levels of knowledge and wisdom. A larger Circle encloses the petals and four Squares representing the material world complete the outermost part of the yantra. On its right side, there is an etched image of Bhagawan Dakshinamoorthy, and carved mantras at the top and the bottom of the yantra. Taken together, this yantra enlightens the worshiper with elevating and enriching knowledge, and helps students at all levels to excel in their studies and education. This is an immensely powerful tool for those engaged in regular spiritual practices such as meditation as it fosters ultimate awareness, new insights and perceptions, understanding and knowledge.

Bhagawan Dakshinamurthy is a serene and youthful incarnation of Bhagawan Shiva, often portrayed as a peaceful teacher meditating beneath a banyan tree. "Dakshinamurthy" originates from the Sanskrit words "Dakshina" (south) and "Murthy" (form). This name symbolizes his role as Shiva's "South-Facing Form," or Shiva facing the South direction. Bhagawan Dakshinamoorthy is the revered guru who bestows knowledge, wisdom, and enlightenment upon disciples through his profound silence and hand gestures. His calm expression represents the reflective silence of the ultimate reality, transcending words and intellectual comprehension.

Dakshinamoorthy is depicted in iconography with his right hand in the "chin mudra," a gesture symbolizing wisdom and knowledge. His disciples, representing seekers of knowledge, surround him. Bhagawan Dakshinamurthy's form represents the profound concept that wisdom and understanding can be achieved not just through words, but also through introspection and inner realization. He is the epitome of spiritual enlightenment and the ultimate guru, therefore guiding seekers towards self-realization and liberation.

How to Meditate on Dakshinamoorthy Yantra? (Visualization Technique)

Meditating on the Dakshinamoorthy Yantra is the most powerful way to achieve union with the diagram. Achieving the union is said to reveal all secrets of the world and one is supposed to gain access to knowledge of higher realms. In an oversimplified sense one must recreate the Dakshinamoorthy Yantra diagram accurately in the mind and visualize it. This visualization technique may sound simple but is quite tough to achieve, one must spend years of sadhana just to create an accurate image of the diagram in their head.

One can start by sitting in a comfortable posture facing east with an accurate image of Dakshinamoorthy Yantra at their Eye Level.

Perform Pranayama Anolom Vilom (Alternating nostril breaths) 10 times & meditate to purify your mind and thoughts.

Start by focusing on the Centre Point Bindu with your gaze going inward to outward from the Bindu to the 1st Layer of the first Square to the 2nd Layer of the second tilted Square to the 3rd Layer of the Circle to the 4th Layer of the 8 petals of Lotus to the 5th Layer of the Circle to the 6th Layer of the Squares in the outermost part. These are the steps or Avaran of Dakshinamoorthy Yantra.

Then your gaze should go from the Outermost Gate back to the Bindu.

Try to avoid blinking your eyes during this process. You can do this for multiple rounds for 30 minutes.

After you can focus with intent for at least 30 minutes (the stamina to just focus may take quite some time to develop) close your eyes and try to recreate the image of the Dakshinamoorthy Yantra Diagram accurately.

Once you can create and sustain an accurate image of Dakshinamoorthy Yantra in your mind try to focus one by one on the steps mentioned above and go from Bindu to Outermost gate & Back to Bindu however all this needs to be done in your mind in meditation with your eyes closed.

This visualization technique takes many years to master and bless the Sadhak with material success as well as spiritual augmentation.
