In the ancient echoes of Vedic wisdom, Rudra emerges as the fiery embodiment of divine grace, spreading like an eternal flame from the depths of the Earth. Rudram is an ancient Vedic hymn in praise of Lord Shiva, and is the oldest prayer with a listing of various names of Lord Shiva. Through the chanting of Rudram, Lord Shiva’s various attributes and aspects are invoked and worshipped. Chanting the Rudram is considered to be of great benefit. The Rudram chanting when accompanied with the Vedic fire ritual is called the Rudra Yajna. Sage Satapatha in his treatise ‘Maharnava Karma Vipaka’ listed four types of abhisheka procedures compatible with Vedic and scriptural lore and abhisheka is the Lord’s favourite form of worship. These are Rudram, Ekadasa Rudram, Maha Rudram and Ati Rudram – each being more powerful than the preceding one.
Namakam recited once along with recital of Chamakam once constitutes one Rudram.
11 recitations of Namakam + 1 Anuvaka of Chamakam is called Ekadasa Rudram i.e. after chanting the Namakam, the first anuvaka of Chamakam is chanted afterwards, then another round of Namakam is chanted followed by the second Anuvaka of Chamakam, and so on until the 11th chanting of Namakam is followed by the 11th Anuvaka of Chamakam.
Maha Rudra Yajna is one of the highest forms of community worship ,with the involvement of 11 Ritwiks reciting the Rudram 11 times on 11 days , totalling 1,331 times in a grand Fire Homam ceremony. This grand 11 days long Vedic ceremony is for Loka Kalyana, the welfare of all devotees, their families, all humanity and for Universal peace and prosperity.
Mere words cannot express the powers and benefit of this great ritual and one is blessed a million times to just see and participate in this divine procedure. The Maha Rudram Maha Yagya is performed for ‘Loka Kalyana’, general prosperity as well as to ensure universal peace and harmony. The Maha Rudram purifies us of all negative energies, relieves us from Karma, and protects from natural calamities.
Every step of the Maha Rudra Maha Yagya also involves Rudrabhisheka for Shiva lingam that immensely pleases the “Abhiseka Priya” bhagavan Shiva. The linga personifies the entire universe, therefore ablutions that cool it, actually brings about tranquillity in the world.
Rudram consists of five major parts:
It ends with recitation of Purush Sukta and Durga Sukta.
Significance of Maha Rudram
Keivalyo Upanishad says: "Namakam Chamakam Hotran, Purush-suktam Japet Sada, Pravishet Sa Mahadeva Graham Grahapatiryatha"
Translation: By Namak Chamak Mantras, the person enters the abode of Lord Shiva without any fear and with certainty.
The objective of Maha Rudram is to chant the most powerful prayers dedicated to Lord Shiva. These sacred prayers are recited for removal of all malefic and difficulties and for all round benefits along with absolution of all sins. Comprising 11 sacred segments called Anuvakas, each Anuvakas praises His various accomplishments and attributes and invoke His boundless benevolence. Chamakam are sacred hymns, which furnish the happiness of highest order and fulfil all desires. By the power of Rudram, sick become well, the unmarried find ideal mates, debts are removed, wealth & power is showered and death is evaded. The power available during the performance of this yajna is of such a high magnitude that Yogis and Tantriks activate mantras and become recipients of great magical occult secrets.
The entire city of Trimbak is an auspicious and blessed land. We at Rudra Centre have our own temple in Triambakeshwar. Our erudite Karmakandi Pundits perform the Maha Rudra Maha Yagya pujas as instructed in the Scriptures. None of the Maha Rudra Maha Yagya are performed inside the Main Tribakeshwar Mandir, all the vidhis are performed in our temple which is at walking distance from the main temple.
Maha Rudra Yajna Benefits:
This Maha Yajna would be performed in the holy city of Trimbakeshwar which is home to the Trimbakeshwr jyotirlinga.
