Ati Rudram is considered the most potent and highest form of worship dedicated to Lord Shiva. Ati means ultimate and Rudra is a name of Lord Shiva. The Ati Rudram is such a powerful Vedic ritual that as per scriptures conducting the Ati Rudram is the best karma a human being can do in his lifetime to attain spiritual liberation and achieve union with Lord Shiva. It not only ensures individual peace and prosperity but also assists in protection of Dharma, revival of Vedas and welfare of all mankind. Lord Shiva, is the Para Brahmana, the Supreme Consciousness, the Divine Cosmic energy that pervades all that exists. As Rudra, He is the One who is fierce and untamed and through this Yajna, He is pacified to reveal His benevolent form Shiva who is the supreme Brahman.

Sri Rudram, also known as Rudraprasna is a hymn from the Yajur Veda. It consists of two parts the Namakam (Chapter 16) and Chamakam (Chapter 18). The hymns invoke Lord Rudra, glorify Him and request the Lord for His blessings of wish fulfillment both material and spiritual. They comprise of 14,641 repetitions of the Sri Rudram and Chamakam.

Conducting the Ati Rudram washes away one's sins and afflictions, uplifts the consciousness and brings peace, prosperity, harmony and happiness. As per Vedic scriptures, by the power of Ati Rudram the sick become well, the unmarried find ideal mates, burden of debts are lifted forever, wealth & power is showered and accidents, untimely death are evaded.

During the Ati Rudram, there is regular and continuous recitation of all the four-Vedas (Rigved, Saamved, Yajur Veda and Atharva Veda), Ramayan of Tulsidas, Shrimad Bhagwat (Original in Sanskrit) and Shivpuran. Ati Rudram will be conducted for 11 continuous days and will be accompanied with Abhishekam, meaning continuous pouring of milk on the Narmadeshwar Shivlings, which will be sanctified by Vedic rituals by Jala-shayan, Anna-shayan, Pushpa-shayan etc. before starting the Ati Rudra ritual. A the end of each day, Homa will be performed. The Ati Rudram will be conducted by 66 most scholarly Vedic pundits, who follow the Shukla Yajurved system.

How Ati Rudram recitations are done:

1. 11 priests chant Ekadasa Rudram simultaneously that result in completing a Laghu Rudram.
2. 121 Ritviks (Vedic priests who conduct Vedic rituals and Yagnas) chant Ekadasa Rudram simultaneously that results in completing a MahaRudram.
3. Typically, in the Ati Rudram, a Maha Rudram is completed in 1 day resulting in the chanting of the Rudram 1331 (121x11) times.
4. A Maha Rudram repeated for 11 days would complete an Ati Rudram during which the Sri Rudram would have been chanted a total of 14641 (121x121) times.

  • 11 Shivlings for Abhishekam for each set of 6 brahmins would be set up along with the main Homa Kunda for the Ati Rudra Yagna
  • There will be 66 Priests who are fluent in chanting Sri Rudram.
  • Each day of the Atirudra, Brahman Varan and donation to priests will be made
  • Daily puja of Pradhan Mandal, Maha Kali- Maha Saraswati-Maha Lakshmi Mandal, Shetraphal, Das Dikpal (ten directions), Vastu Mandal, Vishnu Puja, Navgraha Mandal puja will be done.
  • Rudra Abhishekam of Shiva Lingam will be performed continually with milk, curd, honey, herbs, ghee, juices and exotic fragrances each day.
  • Daily Abhishekam will be followed by Homa (sacred fire ceremony) by 11 Brahmins, on each day of Ati Rudram.
  • the daily event will start at 9 AM and conclude around 6 PM.
  • Every day of Ati Rudram, there will be music offering with Bhajans and Satsang.
